[DoEd] The Value of Air Fighters

DoEd Press Briefing Room: Secretary LifesaverM presenting

Why we separate ground and air fighters and why air is so important.

These days it’s hard to get into the upper levels of strength. I know I’ve been back at the game since late-2017ish-early-2018 can’t quite remember now and I’m just about to break the 150k mark. Being away for a few years and not developing my character in the early days as I should have has prevented me from being in the upper-strength club. Even with max training grounds you can gain +90 strength per day which translates to a max gain of 32,850 strength per year. Combine that with the bonus +2 strength per day from the Daily challenge your full possible max gain per year is 33,580 assuming you don’t miss a day. Currently, when we run most weapons programs like our new shiny Harlot’s Initiative it has a 250k strength minimum requirement. If you started with a fresh new account today this would take you nearly 7.5 years to achieve this requirement. When I came back the strength requirement for most programs was 100-150k, and has continually inched up over the years. This can be frustrating to some players who really want to fight and feel like ground fighting and its perks are always out of their reach. Truly, I hear you.

However, don’t be discouraged. Over time some players have told me they have left because of always being told just fight Air and feeling like they really couldn’t plug in, or were unvalued, or didn’t feel important. In reality, this just is not the case and we want you to know just how valuable Air fighting really is. The true value of Air fighting has not always been communicated in a way to make a player feel they are not just a second-class citizen. Yes, we’ve hyped programs but often as renowned leadership expert John Maxwell puts it in his 21 Laws of Leadership Law #14 the Law of Buy-In,: “people often have it [leadership] all backwards. They believe that if the cause is good enough, people will automatically buy into it and follow.” Believe me, there are days I get tired of just doing one thing too, but in this day in age of the game it has significant value.

So why is Air really this important? Well, not all that long ago Air fighting for one only occurred every 4 rounds. So it was a pain sometimes to have to wait for the Air battle to pop. But that is not the case anymore since we have Air battles every round. That major change to the war module has made Air fighting even more critical, and we need Air damage constantly. We always have many Training Wars (TWs) going on which provide opportunities for you to fight but lately, we also have had plenty of real war battles too.

Sadly, Air weapons are insanely expensive and not sustainable as a government program right now which is why we rarely offer them at all. But we as a society do value our Air fighters and that is why our nation for years has maintained programs for our Air fighters. GIMP (see links below) the current version of our Air program is our government’s single biggest weekly expense because of the importance we place on the development of our Air fighters and want to encourage folks to fight in Air battles. Since Air battles do happen every round these days it has placed their importance in a campaign onto nearly equal footing with ground fighting. The winner of the Air Division if you will earns 7 Campaign points each round. For ground Division 1 earns 1 point, Div. 2 earns 2 points, Div. 3 earns 3 points, and Div. 4 earns 5 points. So yes combined all ground divisions earn 11 points, but Air with its 7 points is the single highest-earning Division. That does carry a lot of weight and does influence the overall total campaign points significantly over the entire campaign. It requires 150 points to win a campaign, and our Air Fighters can earn us ~70-84 points of that in a typical campaign battle (assuming 10-12 rounds). That is no small potatoes my friends, and is exactly why we place so much emphasis on Air fighting and developing our players in the Air “Division”. Here new players, old players it doesn’t matter you DO make a difference.

Let me encourage you to read this great Air Combat Article written by our own Super Nova that gets into some of the nitty-gritty of Air Combat deployment.
